In a research project for school I learned that in low income house holds many children do not have books to read. I often ask myself with the free library right around the corner, and so many websites where you can get cheap books, why? I then found that many children worry about day to day meals, so reading outside of school is the least of their worries. So what can we do as community leaders, parents, and volunteers? Any suggestions on how to keep our children reading this summer in the urban communities? I think Drop Everything and Read is a great idea, especially in house holds. Imagine if at a certain time of day this summer kids stop playing for 15-30 sit on their steps, and read a book. Imagine if the adults did this with them. That would be a great thing. Reading literacy is so important. Lets step up, and keep our children reading this summer. Remember reading is fundamental. |
